Brad Shields (8 caps), Dan Cole (85 caps) and Lewis Ludlam took a break from training to take part in the Fuzion 100 player appearance at Chobham Rugby Club – where two schools were invited down to take part in a coaching masterclass. Ripley Court and Solefield School brought down 18 lucky pupils to have an upfront and personal coaching session with the three England players.

Lions Sports Academy (LSA) were heavily involved throughout the afternoon running the rugby games and drills with the expertise added in from the 3 players. Lions Sports Academy provides sporting camps for all ages & abilities. It doesn’t matter whether you are looking to develop your skills or just have fun with your friends and stay fit & healthy, they will provide a camp that is tailored around the individuals preferences. They provide a variety of camps that feature a number of different sports including both boys & girls rugby, cricket and elements of our athlete development programme. Have a look at their upcoming Summer Camps here https://www.lionssports.academy/bookingpage

As well as intimate coaching drills with the players, the pupils also were allowed to ask questions. Here are a few examples:

What does a typical match-day look like?

Lewis Ludlam – ‘I like to wake up late, get a good breakfast and then arrive at the ground early, before the nerves kick-in!’

Brad Shields – ‘I tend to have a big breakfast and get out of the house to take my mind off of the game!’

Dan Cole – ‘I prefer to get out and physically moving to get my mind in the game.’

What is your proudest moment in an England Shirt?

Brad Shields – ‘My first test at Twickenham – I looked into the stand and saw my parents and my wife – I was immensely proud.’

Dan Cole – ‘Winning the Grand Slam in 2016 after having a hard-time in 2015 – it was a relief!!’

What is your advice to young, budding players?

Dan Cole – ‘Enjoy the game as much as possible!’

Lewis Ludlam – ‘Back yourself more than anything!’

Brad Shields – ‘Talent only gets you so far, make sure you enjoy the game and it makes you happy!’

James Cramp, teacher at Solefield School, said ‘It was a truly inspirational afternoon for the boys and we were so grateful for the opportunity from Fuzion 100 to learn from the best about how to improve on the field.’

It’s safe to say it was a fantastic afternoon for all involved and we would like to thank Brad, Dan and Lewis, as well as the coaches from Lions Sports Academy for all their efforts on the day!
